Who we are:
Established in 2007, the Women’s Empowerment Link (WEL) is a non-profit, nonpartisan, non-governmental women’s rights organization.
We invest in empowering women and girls to realize their full potential, worth and strength politically, socially and economically through advocating for their human and social justice rights. WEL recognizes that the survival of women and their communities is increasingly challenged by economic dependency, illiteracy, gender inequalities and marginalization, HIV/AIDS, Sexual & Gender Based Violence (SGBV), conflicts, insensitive laws and policies. WEL has over the years reached directly and indirectly to over 100,000 women & girls and their families. Our carefully designed evidence based interventions benefit women and girls, their families, large communities, constituents and the nation.
To this end, WEL seeks to respond to these issues, and address the linkage between poverty and gender inequalities. The aforementioned issues are believed to create barriers in the overall development of women. WEL addresses these through three major strategic thematic areas: Transformative Leadership for Women, Prevention and Response on Violence against Women and Girls; and supporting Sustainable Livelihoods for Women.
