WEL in Partnership with United Nations Trust Fund (UNTF)

With support from the United Nations Trust Fund (UNTF), WEL partnered with Trocaire to empower over 1200 young women entrepreneurs in Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Nakuru and Nairobi. These women, who are at risk or survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and live in informal urban settlements, gained confidence, business skills, and access to financial services through the project.

To ensure inclusivity, especially for low-income and illiterate women, WEL designed visual and practical training methods to teach financial management and entrepreneurship. The program incorporated caricatures and interactive tools, making complex financial concepts easier to understand. By tailoring the curriculum to support non-literate participants, WEL removed literacy as a barrier, ensuring that all women—regardless of their educational background—can gain financial literacy and participate effectively in economic activities.
