In partnership with Trocaire, WEL has adopted innovative approaches such as the SASA model to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The SASA model was developed by Raising Voices in Uganda, where it has successfully reduced cases of domestic violence by 50%. WEL has strengthened the capacity of women’s self help groups (SHGs), community members and county governments of Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa, Embu, Nairobi, Bungoma and Baringo to prevent and respond to domestic violence using the SASA methodology. Recognizing the strong link between poverty and GBV, the program engages women survivors who are members of the SHGs in financial education to further develop their financial literacy skills.
