Power of Equality (PoE): Achieving Women’s Participation in Bomet Chief Barazas

With the successful completion of the Power of Equality (PoE) Project in February 2026 , the aims of empowering human rights educators and defenders (HREDs) and promoting gender equality have been fully realized. We now reflect on how dialogue can turn into action through the community-driven policy to enhance women’s voice and meaningful participation in Chief Barazas, which is now a reality in Bomet.

This milestone is a powerful reminder that when communities are centered, listened to, and supported, governance spaces can become more inclusive, responsive, and transformative. Unlike policies that exist only on paper, this guideline reflects lived experiences, collective advocacy, and the courage of women claiming their space in decision-making forums.

The achievement highlights the impact of equitable partnerships between Women’s Empowerment Link (Kenya), Tusonge Community Development Organization (Tanzania), Mouvement Burkinabè des Droits de l’Homme et des Peuples (Burkina Faso), and Equitas Human Rights (Canada). Through this   engagement with Human Rights Educators and Defenders (HREDs)Community Led Monitoring Evaluation (CoLMEAL), the project strengthened leadership, built capacity, and demonstrated that dialogue, when coupled with community ownership, can lead to meaningful, lasting change.

Empowering women to participate in governance is not just an ideal ,it is a tangible, achievable reality. The journey continues, inspiring hope for communities where every voice counts.
