Gender and Financial Inclusion Expert – Women and Youth Economic Empowerment

WEL works to ensure that women and girls reach their full potential politically, socially, and economically by addressing systemic barriers such as gender inequality, economic dependency, and limited access to financial resources.

Under its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, WEL recognizes women’s and youth economic empowerment as a prerequisite for sustainable development and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). WEL is implementing a five-year program focused on removing systemic barriers to financial inclusion and creating sustainable economic opportunities for financially disadvantaged young people—particularly young women—within Kenya’s agricultural sector.

We are therefore seeking a highly motivated and experienced Gender and Financial Inclusion Expert to provide technical leadership in gender and youth mainstreaming and transformative programming across this initiative.

Key Responsibilities:
The Gender and Financial Inclusion Expert will provide strategic and technical leadership to ensure women and youth meaningfully benefit from financial inclusion and economic empowerment initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of WEL’s gender and financial inclusion strategy.
  • Integrating gender-transformative and youth-inclusive approaches across all program activities.
  • Conducting gender and youth analyses to identify and address systemic barriers to financial inclusion.
  • Developing tools, frameworks, and action plans for effective gender and youth mainstreaming.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Gender and development studies, human rights-based approach, participatory approaches and methodologies, monitoring and evaluation is highly desired.
  • At least 5-10 years of demonstrable experience, 5 of which have been in developing and implementing a gender portfolio, gender related programming – preferably in the financial services domain
  • Demonstrable experience in gender mainstreaming within programmes
  • Demonstrable experience either developing gender tools and frameworks and / or delivering these frameworks and tools (internally within the organisation and externally with partners)
  • Exceptional communications skills and Team work skills
